Ask a thousand different people what Jazz is and you’ll get a thousand different answers. You may come across some common themes like improvisation, musicianship, and freedom and perhaps even some of the less complementary ones like pretentious, unapproachable, or even soft. It’s true, what was once the voice of the diaspora and disenfranchised free-thinkers soon became the background noise of stuffy lounges. But things often have a way of coming around full circle, and now the tribal, rhythmic force that is Jazz is dominating dancefloors all across the globe one again. With beautiful, burgeoning scenes popping up in London, Chicago, LA, Melbourne, Johannasburg, Manchester, New York and beyond, and no shortage of truly talented virtuosos its safe to say that Jazz is back here to stay.
